The United Kingdom part 4 | Tate Modern

And so I shall continue my story!

So, day 2. Me and the class were scheduled to go to Tate Modern and St. Bride's library. Tate modern is a large gallery where exhibitions by (supposed to be) world-renown designers and artists are held, and St. Bride's is one of the oldest library there, known for its printing history.

Had breakfast at the hostel, and left. This is what our hostel looked like from outside :)

Ready for the day! The view of the street across as my background.

Huyen was busy taking pics as well.

Pretty girl!

After our mini photo session, we walked down to Queensway station, which was a few blocks away.

OOTD of this 2 ladies(?)

The interior of the train there is so much different then our MRTs. Their seats were soft and covered with velvet covers. And their paint was chipped everywhere.
It's true that our MRTs are way cleaner, but as Zee put it, there is a "touch of humanity" there. Each stroke tells a story. The whole imperfection tells a story.

The cushioned and colorful seats.

There, chipped paint.

Me being me, I was disgusted at first. Sat at the very tip of the chair. But in the end got used to it.

And Huyen carried her DSLR the whole day. Power.

We alighted at St. Paul's station.

They stand on the RIGHT side of the escalator. I needed to get used to this.

Zee! To the right!

From the station, we needed to walk quite a bit to Tate Modern.

The view right outside the station.

On our way there, we made quite a few stops to take a few(?) pictures. It was such an adventure!

We walked pass this thing. At first I thought it was a chapel or something. But no.

It was an office.

It's an office! Can you believe it? It was so pretty!

It has this well-like looking thing. I don't know what this is.

The yard.

Some school kids were having a field trip that day :)

So after that random office, we needed to walk pass this alley towards St. Paul's Cathedral. It is a beautiful cathedral, more details later!!

I was the map reader by the way. I got 99/99 for the Navigation category in my psychotest during highschool :D

St Paul's Cathedral is right in front!

Sinead.

Zee loves Starbucks and had been craving for it for days. So when we finally saw one, we had to stop.

I bought their Signature Hot Chocolate.

So we continued our walk to Tate Modern with a cup of warm Starbucks in hand :)

We needed to go through St. Paul's Cathedral to reach Tate Modern. You bet, more photo taking needed to be done!

Wanted to take a pic of the road, but was blocked by my scarf,
and was too lazy to take another pic.  So there you go :)

Unauthorised persons shall be 'removed'.

Their side entrance. Or maybe it's their office?
Cos there's another bigger entrance at the other side.

Again with the architectural details of buildings of the United Kingdom.

John Wesley, Priest Poet Teacher of the Faith.
Never heard of em.

Windows..

IMO, it looks a tad scary.

The yard.

Sinead in front of this house(?) Maybe it's where the priests live.

Tadah!!

Now this is the main entrance!

We didn't go into the cathedral at that point. We did go in, but later after the St. Bride's trip. So for now, we just passed it.

Feli's face.

Another statue of donno who.

The road across the cathedral.

Towards Tate Modern!

Passed this cute looking building :)

Salvation Army!!! INTERNATIONAL headquarters!! Thinking that they have a branch here at Bishan..

To reach Tate Modern, we needed to cross this bridge.

Tales from the bridge.. Didn't read it.

Tate Modern within reach!

The view.

Wind wind blow~

The girls :) Should have photoshopped myself there!!

People locks padlocks on the railing.. I wonder what each one has to tell :)

Found this one.. So beautiful :)
I bet there is some romantic story behind this one.

So after lots of photo taking, we finally touched down at Tate Modern! It doesn't look much from the outside, really.. Like some kinda factory.. But it's a place where a lot of designers would want to go to.. So I am blessed to be there! :)

Finally.. TATE MODERN!!

Smile smile~

First photo IN Tate Modern.. Is taken in the toilet..

Everyone minding their own business..

So there were a lot of exhibitions inside. Not knowing which one to go to, we decided to join the tour. Others who joined were mostly old folks. The tourguide himself was old.

And so we toured!

I could not understand. But it looks nice.
Love the dark grunge feel of it!

Two birds hit by an arrow.

The uncle on the right was the tourguide. He worked there for some 30 years, if I'm not mistaken.

Art.. art.. It has journeyed through a lot of different country.
Tate Modern in London is just one of its stop :)

This I really do not understand.
It was something about labor and creating tools..

When you see through the hole, there was some sort of light tunnel..
I can't describe, but it was alright. Not that cool not that uncool.

After some time, we realize that the stuff the tourguide had been showing us was not related to graphic design. It was more towards fine art. So we separated from the group and went our own way.

There was a small cubicle for the viewers to interact. There were papers for us to draw our interpretation of the title. Here's what I drew.

:p

A quote from Dali on the wall of the cubicle.

Went out of the small cubicle to another floor, we found more interesting stuff. Another exhibition which is more modern and contemporary.

It started off with this set. I think it's supposed to resemble some shack on a beach or something.

There was this small display. Zoomed in on that thing on the right..

..and it was a maid sweeping!!  It must have some meaning which I am too lazy to ponder on.

Another set. An office? It was a set of three, this was the left portion.

Middle portion. A sink and mirror.

Right portion was a tent. Have no idea what this whole thing means.

There were more stuff, but I didn't take photos of them all.

So outside of the exhibition room was this wall. It was a timeline, stating all the arts movements and characters throughout the years. Pretty awesome!

Nope, he isn't someone I know.

Toilet break. Took some pics for you as well :p

A no cover closet.

Lol!

So that was it for Tate Modern, cos we needed to head back to the cathedral to meet with our friends to go to St. Bride's library. We passed this huge space on our way out.

On the right was their bookstore.

Ladies~

Outside, the weather was sunny yet cool since it was autumn. A weather you won't get in Singapore.

Pretty trees!! It really was so pretty.

:D

Teenage boys. Too bad younger guys won't do for me.

The bridge we passed previously, from another angle.
You can see the cathedral! It was huge.

Right before taking the pic above, I remembered there was a guy singing just by the road. His voice was awesome!! I have no idea why I didn't snap a pic of him.

It was about to rain on the left side! Some snack sellers on the right.

The Salvation Army headquarters again.

Some odd looking statue. And Zee.

Another statue. I think those are list of names of their heroes?

We still had a little time for a quick lunch, so we went to this cafe called Apostrophe. They sell baguettes and stuff. It was a pretty cafe, and I loved their branding!

The interior.

Their selection of baguettes.
My long awaited lunch. By that time, I was damn hungry!

Salami baguette with cheese and stuff.

We dabao-ed our lunches and went to the cathedral to wait for the rest of the class.

There, my classmates!

Munch munch. Faster finish lunch!
And someone still was camera conscious in the midst of the battle between stomach and time.

Haha!!!

Happy lady.

So that's it for part 4.
Part 5 coming up, hopefully soon!!

Thanks for reading and see ya!!
